Governor Ongwae flags team to ELASCA games

Kisii Governor James Ongwae yesterday flagged off the team that will participate in the East African Local Authorities Sports and Cultural Association (ELASCA) games.

Six players from Kisii County were selected to form the Kenyan Football team in the regional games that begin on Saturday in Kisumu County. Former Kenyan International Henry Motego is a leading coach for the Kenyan team. Dr Donald Ratemo will captain the team.

The six were selected for trials after they carried victory in the Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association games held in August in Kiambu County.

Governor Ongwae wished the team well and challenged them to do their best as they represent the County and Kenya at the games. Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi will take part in the games.

“We are proud as a County to have produced six players to make up the Kenyan team at the East African Local Authority games. I expect the team to conduct themselves with professionalism and excel,” said the Governor.

“After we beat Kiambu 4-3 in post-match penalties in their home county, six of us were picked for trials and succeeded to join the Kenyan team that will face off teams from Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi,” Dr Ratemo said.

Dr Ratemo said the Kenyan team had prepared well and was ready to battle it out for top honours during the games.

“We are in high spirits heading into the games. We are confident of trouncing defending champions Uganda and bring home a trophy. Fans should turn up and support us,” said Dr Ratemo.

Other Counties with representation in the Kenyan team include Nairobi (3), Nakuru (2), Kiambu (2), Busia (2), Bungoma (2) and Siaya (1).
