Governor Ongwae in the US for the Annual East Africa Chamber of Commerce Trade Conference

Kisii Governor James Ongwae is in Dallas, USA for the 11th Annual East Africa Chamber of Commerce Trade Conference 2018.

The theme for this year’s conference is: “Forging Deeper Relationships via Investment, Trade and Innovation.” It brings together government and the business community from Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania, South Sudan, Rwanda, Ethiopia and USA.

Governor Ongwae is part of a Kenyan delegation that includes Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki, Murang’a Senator Irungu Kangata, Kenya’s ambassador to the US Robinson Githae and his Ugandan counterpart Mull Katende.

Nyamira County is represented by First Lady Naomi Nyagarama and CEC for Education Gladys Momanyi.

The conference offers an opportunity for participants to network with key business leaders in the USA and beyond in the areas of energy, agriculture, innovation, tourism, healthcare and water resources.

In today’s session, Founder and President of Water for the World Dr Danny Thomas gave a presentation on the Biosand Filtration solution that is effective, efficient, power efficient and portable.

Each participating county received a water purifier machine that can treat 8,800 litres of water daily, enough to supply clean water to 44,000 people.

Later, the Governor attended a roundtable meeting on sustainable food production and storage technology. The technology can enable East African countries address food shortages resulting from soil exhaustion caused by outmoded farming practices, a decrease in arable land and crop storage at home in sub-standard conditions.
