Kisii Governor James Ongwae has thanked President Kenyatta for tasking Interior CS Fred Matiang’i to oversight Government programmes.
Governor Ongwae said the move signaled the overwhelming confidence the President has on Dr Matiang’i.
“This is what we call meritocracy in service. The President has confirmed that when you are meritocratic, when you are hardworking, you will be trusted to do the job,” Governor Ongwae said.
The county executive officer was accompanied by Members of the County Assembly when he spoke to journalists.
“We thank the President for tasking Dr Matiangi to coordinate government business. Dr Matiangi is straight forward and he has delivered in all the dockets he has held in government,” Governor Ongwae said.
Dr Matiangi is regarded in political circles as super CS due to his hands-on approach and towering presence in any job he is assigned.
Dr Matiangi is credited for having switched off analogue TVs in the country, making millions of viewers go without watching their favorite stations on end until they conformed to the digital migration.
He also worked together with the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) to restore sanity after shameless incidences of exam malpractices for many years.
Lately, the CS has been engaging actors in the matatu sector in his bid to restore dignity in public transport and reduce cases of cases of road accidents on Kenyan roads by reintroducing safety rules that were swept under the carpet after the demise of former Transport Minister, John Michuki.
“The CS will coordinate the Big Four agenda and as a county government, we subscribe to the ideals of this country. We subscribe to this country’s development efforts,” the Governor said.
County Assembly Chief Whip John Ombati asked the Abagusii community to support Dr Matiangi so that he delivers for the good of the nation.
“Dr Matiangi who is one of our own should be our uniting factor. We all need to support him,” Ombati said.
Dr Matiang’i traces his ancestral roots to South Mugiurango constituency, Kisii County. His extended family has settled in Borabu Settlement Scheme in the neighboring Nyamira County.
He is arguably the most influential leader at the national stage from his backyard at the national stage.
