County commissions Sh 32 million surgical complex at Nyamache hospita

Residents of Bobasi Sub County are set to enjoy improved healthcare services following the commissioning of a Sh 32 million surgical complex at Nyamache Level Four Hospital.

Residents will now be able to access minor and major surgeries including Caesarian Sections, orthopedic and general surgeries at the facility. Previously, patients had to travel to Kisii and other places for the critical service.

Speaking during the commissioning of the facility, Governor James Ongwae described the event as historic saying it was the first time since independence the region could access an operational theatre outside Kisii Hospital.

“As a County Government, we have invested heavily in healthcare services which take up to 40 per cent of our annual budget. We have embarked on a plan to upgrade facilities in outlying hospitals in order to improve the quality of healthcare available to our people,” said Ongwae.

The surgical complex has a modern maternity, a surgical theatre, a surgical ward and modern theatre equipment. The Sub County Medical Officer of health Dr. David Okinyi said so far, the theatre has conducted four surgeries.

“Last week, we commissioned a similar facility at Keumbu Sub County referral hospital in Nyaribari Chache. I am glad this hospital is changing its status to a full-fledged Level Four Hospital thus helping decongest Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital. We have also availed a state of the art ambulance to cater for emergencies and referrals of critical cases in this hospital,” added the Governor.

He was accompanied by CEC Health Services Sarah Omache, area MCAs and other senior county Government officials. Nyamache Hospital was established in 1956 as a dispensary but was elevated to a health centre in 1968. It was gazette as a level four hospital in 2007 with a catchment population of 215,320 people.

Later, the Governor launched a cleaning service for Nyamache Town and inaugurated an integrated street lighting programme. The County Government has installed solar powered street lights in the Town to boost security.

Speaking during a stopover at Emenwa market, Governor Ongwae pledged to construct sheds for boda boda operators and install solar street lights following requests by residents.
