The Kisii County Government is working with partners to reduce avoidable blindness and visual impairment. The Department of Health Services in conjunction with Brienholders Vision Institute and the Operation Eye Sight International sponsored the training of Primary Teachers, Health Care Workers and community health workers in Kisii County.
The training was to equip the participants with knowledge on basic eye health in order to identify and refer Children with Visual Problems.
Over 2000 children below the 15 years of age have been screened for eye health cases and 340 referred to the eye unit at KTRH ( Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital ) for Management and Training. Today’s event was graced by CEC Health Services Mrs. Sarah Omache , County Director of Medical Services Dr. Geoffrey Otomu and an eye specialist Clarice Onyango.
CEC health Services Mrs. Sarah Omache , while addressing the participants ,thanked the donors for their support , as this initiative will assist most needy Children during the four year period that it will be in operation in the County.
