First Lady Mentors Kisii County Youth

Youths will benefit from entrepreneurship and Information and Communication Technology sessions started by the Kisii county First Lady.

Mrs Elizabeth Ongwae through the SOMA initiative in partnership with Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT) has initiated a program to mentor young people in ICT and investment skills to make them self-reliant.

SOMA initiative is under office of the First Lady which aims at empowering Youths and Women in entrepreneurship skills, reaching out to school drop outs by sponsoring their education, distribution of sanitary towels to schools and HIV/AIDS awareness.

Mrs Ongwae spoke when she witnessed the graduation of 50 youths who benefited from the training.

She awarded them with certificates asking them to also go out to the 45 wards in Kisii County and train others.

“The skills are critical in helping you (youth) to take advantage of a third of the tenders and other opportunities in both the county and national government,” she said.

She asked the youth to shun social vices that lead them to drug and substance use.

This Financial year the department of Culture, Sports, Youth and Social services has set aside Kshs. 25 m for young people to borrow and invest to improve their lives.
