Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has approved the 8.9billion Budget for the 2015/2016 financial year.
The governor assented to the county’s 2015/16 finance and appropriation bill setting the pace for approval of the estimates by the office of the Controller of Budget.
The constitution requires that all county and national budgets must be approved by the controller of budget before it is implemented.
This financial year’s budget has prioritized Health care, Water reticulation, Roads development, market development and Social protection. Chief Executive Finance Dr Kodhek Omwancha while presenting the policy statement said the County Government will dedicate its resources towards infrastructural development.
He said other resources will go into youth empowerment programs. Dr Omwancha said there is also a budgetary increase towards bursaries, and recruitment of ECD teachers and polytechnic instructors. He said funds have also been scaled up towards the, completion of workshops in wards, construction of ECDE classrooms and purchase of teaching and learning materials.
The infrastructural development in the health sector was increased from the allocation of shs90million last year to shs135 million. This year’s budget has also seen resources devoted to culture and Heritage. The allocations of shs25 million will see construction of Cultural centers and the establishment of a museum in Kisii town.
