Gusii Stadium to be ready for use by end of November, says Governor

The Gusii Stadium will be ready for use in the next two months, Governor James Ongwae has said.

Speaking during a tour of the facility to assess ongoing works, Governor Ongwae said phase I of the project that entailed construction of a perimeter fence, a pavilion and changing rooms was nearly complete.

He was accompanied by CEC’s Marcella Otuke (Culture, Youth and Social Services), Dr. Kodek Omwancha (Finance and Economic Planning) and engineers led by County Works Officer James Babu.

“We are committed to having this stadium ready for use as soon as possible. The perimeter wall is complete while construction of the main pavilion and changing rooms is underway. The contractor will finish the pavilion by mid next month and we expect the facility to be ready for use by November 30th,” said the Governor.

The contractor said four gates were ready for installation while five other gates including the main gates will be ready in the next two weeks.

Once complete, the stadium will have three pavilions, a separate warm up field, terraces to accommodate fans, changing rooms and washrooms. The playing surface and running track will be rehabilitated as well as the drainage system in the playing field.

“This stadium is important to the community and the country especially in sports. It is for this reason that we are keen to see the renovation works completed quickly. Once phase I is complete, we shall immediately commence phase II of the project which includes construction of terraces, a social hall, rehabilitation of the running track and playing surface and other works,” added Governor Ongwae.
