Israel Government Sponsors Empowerment Projects in Kisii County

The Kisii County government has partnered with Scope International to drill 45 boreholes in all 45 wards. Kisii County Governor James Ongwae said 12 boreholes constructed in primary schools have been completed so far adding that two of them already have water kiosks.

Speaking at Nyanturago Primary school where acting Israel Ambassador to Kenya Navad Peldman launched empowerment projects, the Governor said the boreholes will be developed into water schemes to ensure more people in rural areas access water. Ongwae said though the county plans to venture into water reticulation to ensure potable water is available in every homestead within the county, 10 water springs will be protected in each ward in this financial year. Ongwae thanked Scope International and their partners for supporting the county in implementing development especially in areas of water and economic empowerment.

At the same time, Ongwae thanked Scope International and the Israel Government for collaborating with the county government in the provision of Farm Kits at Nyanturago Primary school that will help small scale farmers access modern agricultural technologies, methods, and inputs of the highest quality.

Ongwae noted that the Farm Kits incorporate innovative agricultural technology like Family Drip System, a farmer’s greenhouse, top quality agro inputs like seed and fertilizer and agro chemicals adding that the project will be implemented in all the 45 wards. He said his government through the department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperative Development has distributed 36 green houses to farmers.

Scope International has also partnered with the county government to build model libraries in public schools and equip them with learning materials to promote a reading culture among learners. He said more than 100 primary schools have benefited from books adding that the county has invested in the construction of community libraries in all sub counties.

Ongwae called on the Israel government to establish a cancer center at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, which will also serve Nyamira, Migori, Homabay and Narok counties.
