Kazi mtaani launched in Kisii

More than 3,900 youths in Kisii aged between 18-35 years have benefited from the National Hygiene Program (NHP) popularly known as ‘Kazi Mtaani’.

The program, whose objective is to provide a form of social protection for workers whose prospects for daily or casual work has been disrupted by the containment policies put in place to limit the spread of COVID-19 targets the youths drawn from Nyaribari Chache and Kitutu Chache South Sub-Counties.

Commissioning the program at Getembe primary school, Governor James Ongwae said it is aimed at bailing out the youth most of whom have been financially affected by the COVID -19 pandemic.

In Kisii town, the areas identified for the programme roll-out include Nyamataro ,Daraja Mbili, Nubia, Jogoo and Mwembe.

The youths are meant to earn a living from this initiative that entails community service and the fight against the spread of Covid-19 through hygienic activities.

The county government has provided basic tools and equipment for the exercise such as garbage trucks besides offering relevant expertise from county engineers and health officers to guide the youth.

Ongwae said, the program that was initiated by President Uhuru Kenyatta will cushion the youths from the effects of the pandemic.
