Kisii County First Lady Elizabeth Ongwae donates learning materials

Kisii County First Lady Elizabeth Ongwae has challenged learners to embrace a reading culture which will help them in future.

 

Speaking when she donated learning materials to five schools in Kitutu Chache North Sub County, Mrs Ongwae urged youths to make reading a hobby for them to be more creative and knowledgeable.

 

She urged teachers, parents and guardians to encourage students to work hard saying education is the best investment for the children.

 

The County First Lady who was accompanied by area Member of County Assembly Onchonga Maina, County Executive Committee (CEC) member in charge of Education and manpower development John Omwoyo, Chief Officers David Okebiro and Patrick Lumumba, head of special Programs Patrick Chogo, Scope International country director Lilian Kwamboka among other officers asked youths to shun drug and substance abuse and other habits that can lead to school dropout.

 

Mrs. Ongwae donated books to Omogumo, Kioge, Samugara, Gesangero and Kenyoro primary schools where she also presented success cards to candidates on behalf of Governor James Ongwae.

 

In an effort to encourage a reading culture for our kids, the county government has embarked on a book distribution project that will be carried out across the County.

 

Later, the officers visited Nyakeiri secondary school where a dormitory was razed down on Sunday night in an incident that left 40 students in the cold.

 

Mrs. Ongwae wished the candidates in the school success in their ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams and urged them not to use the incident as an excuse of not performing well.

 

Omwoyo said though education is not devolved, the county government under the leadership of Governor Ongwae will give assistance within its powers to the school.] He said the County will assist the students purchase some of the items lost during the unfortunate incident.
