Kisii County unveils kshs.10billion budget

The Kisii County Government has unveiled a KShs.10billion budget for the 2016/2017 financial year.

This follows the signing into law of the Appropriations Bill into law by Governor James Ongwae in a ceremony witnessed by Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, Assembly speaker Kerosi Ondieki and CEC Finance Dr Kodek Omwancha.

On Thursday, the County Assembly approved the 2016/2017 financial estimates after intense scrutiny and deliberations. Health, Water, Roads and Education will take the lion’s share of the Kisii County budget.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Governor Ongwae thanked the assembly for expediting the process within the set deadline saying all regulations and guidelines set by the controller of budget and treasury had been followed.

“Treasury has allocated Kisii County KShs.7.6billion while the rest will be financed through conditional grants in the health sector, donor support through DANIDA and local revenue sources. We have prioritized health, water, roads and education which are key in service delivery to the people,” said Ongwae.

Deputy Governor Hon. Maangi lauded the County Assembly for its work saying Kisii was among the few counties that had passed their budget without hitches. His sentiments were echoed by speaker Kerosi Ondieki, majority leader Protus Moindi, Chief Whip Henry Moracha and minority whip Hon. Aburi.

“We have agreed with the County Assembly that most of the projects we shall implement in the new financial year will be labour based. This will allow us actualize the aspirations of our people within a short time while spending minimal resources,” said Governor Ongwae.
