Kisii Governor Hon. James Ongwae today presided over the launch of the County Bursaries Fund in which over KShs.240 million were disbursed to needy students.

Various stakeholders in the education sector attended the event; among them school heads, ward bursary committees, sponsors, teacher unions, the private sector and students.

“The bursary fund is an important kitty that is meant to enable the needy pursue education in recognized education institutions. The prime objective is to boost transition rates and promote retention in our school system.” Said Ongwae.

Speakers at a well-attended event lauded the Governor for his support to education despite the fact that it was not a fully devolved function.

Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, Speaker Kerosi Ondieki, various MCAs and other County leaders attended the function.
