The Kisii County Government and Kenya Literature Bureau (KLB) will partner to improve education standards in early childhood and vocational education centres.
Speaking during a courtesy call on Governor James Ongwae at his office, KLB Board Members Zack Botongore and Josephine Maangi said that the organization would support the county in the areas of through Corporate Social Responsibility.
The areas of collaboration include sponsorship for training, equipping and stocking community libraries, supply of teaching and learning materials, construction of modern latrines for ECD centres among others.
“We have a good working relationship with the County which we would like to enhance through partnership. Vocational training is one area we can support as we have developed books for artisan trade courses. We can also sponsor training,” said Botongore.
Governor Ongwae thanked the organization for their continued support adding that the County Government would sign a Memorandum of Understanding with KLB to facilitate collaborative engagements in the education sector.
KLB will launch distribution of books to Form One students between 4th and 8th January 2018 in Kisii County. KLB is printing 42 out of the 52 titles approved by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD).
CEC for Education, Labour and Manpower Development Amos Andama said the County faced challenges in training of ECD tutors since that function was still retained by National Government hence the need for sponsored programmes.
He also explained the need to have separate toilets for ECD centres to cater for the specific needs of young learners who currently share latrines with pupils in upper primary.
