H.E. Governor James Ongwae is in South Korea at the invitation of David Caprara, Vice-President of Global Peace Foundation. During his visit, the Governor is set to hold high-level meetings with the following:
- Dr. Hyun Jin P. Moon, Founder and Chairman, Global Peace Foundation. Dr. Moon who is worth US$5.4 billion is one of the leading proponents of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) recently adopted by the United Nations. The Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga and the Governor will be discussing how Kenya in general and Kisii County in particular could be assisted in achieving the SDGs.
- Mr. Won Sok Yun, Vice President of Korea Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) to discuss bilateral business and trade opportunities with Kisii County ahead of the planned Kisii County Entrepreneurship Summit. Mr. Sok is also the South Korean President’s appointee in conducting bilateral business cooperation. About a year ago, the Government of Korea sponsored a team of officers from Kisii County where various investment proposals were discussed at the technical level. The Governor will be following up on these with the decision makers in Seoul.
- Mr. Jae Chul Lee, Executive Director of Korea International Trade Association (KITA). This is the largest business organization in Korea with over 71,000 member companies that represents their interests globally. The Governor is keen to tap into the vast trading experience of KITA to market some of the products grown in Kisii County, but which have not found proper marketing channels.
- Mr. Kim Yong Mok, President of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). One of the main areas of interest for the Governor is to provide clean reticulated water to the residents of Kisii County as well as open up opportunities for the youth and women in the county, areas KOICA has been funding in Kenya, but not in Kisii County.
- Executive Team of Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) that successfully developed solar smart schools made of containers, smart pads for children, smart boards for teachers, smart TV that can be used as tables and computers among other products.
- President of Saemaul Undong – the New Village Movement that has been successfully used in Korea to modernize rural communities and rectify the disparities in the standard of living between urban and rural dwellers.
- Mr. Hyoung Min Kim, Managing Director of Urban Youth Academy, to discuss how the youth have been involved in development as well as on possibilities of youth exchange programmes.
