Kisii County Government seeks to improve the welfare of small scale traders in the Central Business district.
Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has assured the traders of an improved working environment assured of their security and that of their goods.
Ongwae asked the traders to form registered groups in order to benefit from the Kisii County Trade Credit scheme.
“The scheme will offer loans as startup capital to individuals, producer business groups, and micro, small and medium enterprises within Kisii County,” said Ongwae.
The Governor was speaking when he inspected various development projects within the CBD.
He said his government has put up solar street lights and high mast floodlights at the CBD, sub county headquarters adding that the projects will be extended to all markets in bid to create a 24 hour economy.
Ongwae said his administration will put cabro blocks at the Kisii Municipal Market to make it easier for traders to lay their wares, ensure good drainage system, construct more toilets and put up water kiosks for the traders.
The Governor noted that a number of urban roads were opened in the last financial adding that more will be constructed to allow movement of goods and services.
He said his administration is working towards decongesting the bus park and called on all stakeholders to join hands and make Kisii town the best place.
The Governor used the occasion to meet various groups including vegetable vendors, jua kali operators, bodaboda operators, second hand clothes (mitumba) sellers and agreed to be consulting on matters of development.
