Gently undulating slopes roll out onto ridges above, gracing the blue skies yonder, replete the greenery on the well cultivated hills, full of life with people and domestic animals completing a scenic sight to behold. Welcome to Kisii County, the home of bananas and soapstone. With an estimated population in excess of 1.2 million and a population density of over 1,000 inhabitants per square kilometre — one of the highest in Kenya — Kisii County forms a ready market not only for finished products but also experts in the service industry.
The county is teeming with a highly skilled labour force essential for economic growth besides harbouring opportunities for various investment opportunities. Residents largely lead a settled life on a small-holder land ownership system that has culminated in massive land demarcation, so much so that Kisii County is essentially one large urban dwelling, at least according to the United Nations definition of urban areas. As one of the 47 counties in Kenya, Kisii County shares common borders with Nyamira County to the North East, Narok County to the South and Homa Bay and Migori counties to the West. It covers an area of 1,302 square kilometres and politically, the county is organised into nine constituencies and 45 electoral wards.
