Governor James Ongwae has launched the construction of a key tarmac road to ease communication in Kisii Town.
The Governor officially commissioned construction of the KShs.39million Kisii Main Stage – Getare road that will serve as link road and ease congestion in the busy Kisii Town.
Construction of the 2.05km road will take six months to complete. Governor Ongwae described the road as a vital gateway to Kisii Town, which connects Kisii and Nyamira Counties through the Kisii-Chemosit road.
“When we came in, we found a road that had deteriorated due to years of neglect. As a County Government, we could not afford to sit back and watch as residents suffered hence the decision to tarmac this stretch of road,” said Governor Ongwae.
The road was initially constructed by the Urban Development Department and is under the mandate of Kenya Urban Roads Authority.
Governor Ongwae who was flanked by his Deputy Joash Maangi said once the road is complete, it will see property values rise and significantly boost the local economy.
“Locals will easily connect to social amenities like hospitals, schools, markets and health facilities. The cost of transport is also set to come down,” said Ongwae.
He directed the CEC for Roads Vincent Sagwe and Chief Officer Osoro Okondo to ensure the road is done to set specifications so residents get value for money.
