The Kisii County Government has released application forms for the County Bursary Fund.
The forms will be available in each of the 45 ward offices across the county starting Wednesday 24th May 2017. A total of KShs.135million will be disbursed in bursaries to needy students and applicants have 14 days to pick and return duly filled forms for consideration.
Speaking at her office while presenting the forms to the directorate of devolved units, CEC for Education, Labour and Manpower Development Dr Skitter Ocharo said orphans will be given priority.
“The County Bursary Board has issued guidelines on disbursement of this bursary. Following the amendment of the County Bursary Fund Act, MCAs are no longer members of the Ward Bursary Committees so they will play their oversight role. We shall work with local administrators to ensure beneficiaries come from the County,” said Dr Ocharo.
In a break from the past, each ward has been allocated a set of 2,000 serialized forms that are green in colour bearing the names of respective wards. Photocopied forms will not be accepted.
“These forms will be issued free of charge at ward offices and a register maintained by the Ward Bursary Committee. We also encourage learners in Vocational Training Institutions (VTCs) to apply,” added Dr Skitter.
Applicants are advised that only one application will be accepted. Double or multiple applications are illegal.
Chief Officer for Education David O’Kebiro urged members of the public to ensure all deserving cases apply for the bursary whose objective is to boost transition rates from primary to secondary and tertiary institutions.
Director in charge of Devolved Units Kissinger Ongaga said his officers would work round the clock to ensure the bursary forms are filled and returned in time.
Ward Bursary Committees will consider applications and recommend awards to be approved by the County Bursary Board.
