Governor James Ongwae today flagged off a consignment of drugs and pharmaceuticals worth KShs.91million.

The drugs worth KShs.75 million will be dispatched to all outlying health facilities while the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) will receive a consignment valued at KShs.16 million.

Governor Ongwae said the consignment, procured from the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA), was sufficient to last the county’s healthcare sector through the electioneering period.

“I want to assure residents that we have acquired adequate supplies of pharmaceuticals to ensure our health facilities don’t face stock outs before, during and after the general elections. I have directed the department of health services to ensure efficient and regular stocking and re-stocking of pharmacies in all hospitals,” said Ongwae.  

He explained that the County Government had made arrangements to clear pending bills with KEMSA in time.

“It is regrettable that there are delays in operationalizing 31 new dispensaries as planned by the County Government due to the ongoing nurses’ strike. I am confident that once the labour dispute is resolved, we shall move with speed to operationalize these health facilities at the grassroots,” added the Governor.

Once the 31 new health facilities are fully operationalized, the total number of public health facilities in the County will rise to 159 significantly boosting healthcare service provision to the people.

Deputy Governor Joash Maangi who flanked the Governor said that despite the rigours of the campaign period, they are committed to serving the people especially the health sector.

Governor Ongwae said his government is committed to improving healthcare services for its residents.
