The Kisii County Government received assorted donation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) from Equity Group Foundation (EGF) and the Kenya COVID-19 Fund Board.

The locally manufactured PPEs that include disposable gowns, surgical masks, N95 respirator masks, gumboots, nitrile gloves, head/hair covers and shoe covers will be used by frontline healthcare workers to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the county.

Speaking when he handed the PPEs at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, Equity Group Chief Commercial Officer Polycarp Igathe hailed Governor James Ongwae for transforming the facility that serves more than six counties since the advent of devolution.

“We are standing in a sanctuary of fruits and bounty of devolution. The kind of development, the facility and equipment I have seen in this hospital is a true manifestation that devolution is working,” said Igathe.

“Indeed, Kisii is well prepared and ready in case the county experiences COVID-19 surge,” he added.

Governor Ongwae said that out of the 13 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Kisii County, six have recovered while seven are admitted at the KTRH with one patient on ventilator.

Ongwae said the ability to equip our medical staff with the requisite protective gear will give them confidence to freely attend to COVID-19 patients without fear or stigma adding that the gesture by Equity Group to offer such support is laudable and a true testimony to the foundation’s dedication to serve humanity through thick and thin.

According to Ongwae,the County Government has established a 310-bed isolation centre at the KTRH.

“We have also established additional isolation wards at the sub-counties including; Getembe dispensary, Mwamogesa dispensary, Kiogoro health center, Kenyerere health center and Misesi health center with an additional 100 isolation beds, collectively.
