The Kisii County government is rolling out an automated paperless system aimed at improving its revenue collection.
Kisii Governor James Ongwae while closing a two day workshop on revenue collection and management systems for Kisii County government reaffirmed his government quest to seal all leakages in revenue collection. Ongwae said that his government seeks to raise a billion annually to supplement treasury allocation to the county to spur economic growth in the county.
The platform which will be rolled out soon, will see the county seal all the leakages in revenue collection and make Kisii the sixth county to roll out the automated system after the counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Nairobi, Kiambu and Machakos.
The improvement of revenue collection will see the Agricultural economic base of Nyanza deliver its essential services to the people in improvement of Health, Water, roads and infrastructure to its residents.
The Governor has set up a task force headed by the Executive Committee Member in charge of Finance Dr. Kodeck Omwancha to identify revenue sources to improve collection.
Speaking at the event Omwancha the challenges that had bedeviled the county for a long time will be a thing of the past. He added that the improvement in revenue collection through the new system will address the budget deficit.
Deputy Governor Joash Maangi said the platform has come at a time when revenue collection in the county has dimmed. “Automation therefore is a step in the right direction,” added Maangi.
Governor Ongwae urged the tender team to perform its duty with diligence and give the county the best company to undertake the exercise which will be officially rolled out in January. The team is assessing seven shortlisted companies involved in integrated automated revenue collection system.
Ongwae said revenue officers will be trained in Information Communications and Technology (ICT) to understand how the new system works. The workshop brought together all directorates, Sub County administrators, County assembly committees on Budget and Appropriation and ICT.
